Washington Business Journal has named BTI360 a Best Place to Work for 2020. This is the 9th time BTI360 has made the list, and the 8th consecutive time.
The Washington Business Journal awards the Best Place to Work designation to 120 DC metro area companies who score the highest in a survey of hundreds of employers. Conducted by Quantum Workplace, the survey asks employees to score their employers on dimensions like perks, leadership, office space, and culture.
“Even though this isn’t our first time winning, we don’t take this honor for granted. Taking care of our team is our top priority, and one of the things we are most proud of,” said CEO MJ Wivell.
Our culture at BTI360 is built on four pillars
1. Great people
Our philosophy: attract the best engineers, invest in their growth, and empower them to make a lasting impact. We are lucky to have a team of top tier software engineers and support staff who are also great people. We spend a good portion of our lives at work. It’s great to spend that time surrounded by smart, considerate teammates.
2. Clear values
Years ago our team came together to codify the behaviors that define our culture. We realized that there were three core behaviors that typify BTI360:
- Grow each day,
- Lead with humility
- Do the right thing.
These aren’t just slogans on the wall. These values are applied every week as teammates make decisions, prioritize projects, and think about what individual growth looks like.
As we’ve applied these values—especially “leading with humility”—we’ve developed a passion for giving back to the community. We are passionate about serving locally and around the world. Every year we send a team to the Dominican Republic, to serve and build relationships in communities where we invest significantly.
3. Teammate growth
At BTI360, we are all about growth. Not the bottom line, our teammates! As our CEO often says, “Most companies use their people to grow their businesses, but at BTI360 we use our business to grow our people.” We do that through certifications, conferences, guest instructors, and internal classes. We believe that if you invest in great people, great things will happen.
4. Engineering culture
As we’ve applied our core behaviors to our discipline, we’ve asked the question, “what does doing the right thing mean when delivering software?” For us, it means delivering software that’s thoroughly tested, easy to understand, and maintainable. (This is why we distinguish between programmers and software engineers.)
At our core, we are a team of software engineers who like to learn new things, build stuff, and solve difficult problems. We take great pride in our work. Therefore, we commit ourselves to software craftsmanship and building long-lasting solutions that our customers will love and that we can be proud of.
